Four time number one blues artist Johnny Stewart is a Wexford born independent singer, songwriter, guitarist who fuses the soul and honesty of blues and the energy and attitude of rock with the infectiousness of pop and creates something fresh and exciting. When you combine this trio of genres with a powerful voice and silky guitar skills you get a young man who captivates the hearts, the minds and the ears of anyone who listens.
Over the past 7 years Johnny has played support to some of the most well-known names in Irish music including: Ryan Sheridan, Jack L, Damien Dempsey, Hermitage Green, The Saw Doctors, Paddy Casey, Heathers, Cast of Cheers, The Kanyu Tree, Clive Barnes, The 4 of Us, Ham Sandwich, The Hot Sprockets, Corner Boy, Fight Like Apes, Royseven and Jamie Lawson. In this time he has also earned himself the reputation of providing exemplary live performances where brute force meets pure emotion in equal measure. He has a natural ability to capture the crowd's attention with his special mix of blues laced pop songs which incorporate his soulful voice and his scintillating guitar skills.
In August 2013 'Little Miss Sunshine' was the first single from 'Daydreamer' to be released. A funky fresh blend of blues & pop, 'Little Miss Sunshine' hit #1 on the iTunes blues singles chart and stayed there for two weeks. 'Little Miss Sunshine' also garnered national radio play and was well received by music lovers worldwide. The album release followed soon after and hit #1 on the iTunes blues album chart. 'Daydreamer' was described as ".. a stunning debut album.." by Kevin Dillon of Chew Your On Fat. Blues, rock, funk and pop combine to make a distinctive sound on this self-produced 10 track debut which highlights an exceptional song-writing ability for such a young artist. The launch of 'Daydreamer' on November 29th 2013 was followed up with a short tour of intimate venues across Ireland. A debut performance at Electric Picnic and a memorable set at the renowned Wexford Spiegeltent festival were big highlights of 2013. Johnny was a top 20 finalist in MTV's Brand New Unsigned for 2014 out of 580 artists. The competition recognises outstanding new unsigned talent from around the world.
Johnny Stewart released his second single, 'She's Trouble' on Friday June 13th with a sold out show in the historical Wexford Arts Centre. ‘She’s Trouble’ followed in the footsteps of ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ and earned top spot on the iTunes blues singles chart. Even more honours were bestowed on ‘She’s Trouble’ when it was made the ‘Daily Download’ on The Tony Fenton Show on Today FM at the end of July.
Johnny’s newly released ‘Ain’t Love A Beautiful Thing’ the third single from ‘Daydreamer’ was released on Friday August 22nd and once agin shot straight to number one on the blues charts. Gritty vocals, overdriven guitars, grooving bass lines and thunderous drums collide perfectly in ‘Ain’t Love A Beautiful Thing’ to show off the heavier side of this young modern blues man’s repertoire.
